So the 'hole' call out is smaller than the major diameter of the tap itself. There is a passing reference to 1mm but no numbers I can see, so I'm going with 1.5 numbers here for discussion.įor external threads (screws) and internal threads (tapped holes/nuts) there are major and minor diameters listed. I'd really appreciate it if somebody could tell me what I'm doing wrong :)įor a 25mm thread, the pitch listed in Machinery Handbook is 1.5mm. However, I played around with all of the above and couldn't get the thread height to match each other. The root radius, or profile land is different between the two sources ( 0.144 ≠ p/4 or p/8) The two different thread heights (h3 & h1) I used these two sources as a reference for drawing up the thread profile:Īnd this is how I drew it up in Solidworks:Īs you can see, the threads pass each other instead of going into each other.
